The service spectrum offered by DMT in the field of virtual reality (VR) in mining is based on the integrated solutions for training in the classroom as well as for individual workplace training:

• VR World
• VR Simulator
• VR Training Room

First of all the working conditions – that is the machines, materials and working environment – are modelled as realistically as possible based on the requirements. Selected objects are animated appropriately to reflect their motions (kinematics). Planning and training scenarios can be interactively observed from different camera positions, some of which would be impossible to film from in reality. In this way we obtain a real image of processes in the VR World.

The models set up in the VR World are driven virtually using true-to-the-original simulated controls created by interactively linking up machines.

Using the VR Simulator we set up a training environment in which the future machine operator can train his skills in handling the machine and improve his understanding of the necessary steps in the overall process. In addition he is acquainted with possible operating errors and what can happen as a result and also learns about safety relevant aspects related to very cramped and difficult working conditions. Teamwork using cost-intensive equipment in cramped spaces requires, perhaps especially in mining, a sense of responsibility, decision-making skills and trust.

In the programme package VR Training Room we integrate several VR Simulators and in this way open up complex working procedures in a virtual room. With direct interaction, a team of staff trains such things as the production procedure, important ways people can help each other as well as safety-relevant aspects.
