    Final repository excavation work

In efforts to isolate radioactive wastes permanently, over longer periods of time, the construction of final repository facilities, either near the surface or in deep geological formations, has come to be accepted as a recognised solution all around the world.

DMT supplies all the engineering support required for this purpose – exploring the site, planning and constructing the repository chambers, operating the repository and ultimately shutting down the facility.

The DMT portfolio of services includes:

    • Geophysical processes for (hydro)geological modelling
    • Preparing forecasts of the substances involved and encountered
    • Demonstrating long-term safety
    • Preparing documentation required for planning and approval
    • Roof control and support technology
    • Ventilation technology
    • 3-D photo, video and animation applications, used to visualise complex situations
    • Concept planning for the infrastructure
    • Technical planning for machinery and equipment
    • Stowing techniques
    • Supervising and documenting the construction work
    • Process design and optimisation
    • Fire and explosion protection
    • Concept for closing down the site.

    Experience that lends confidence
Many local and international clients profit from the experience and know-how we have accumulated in more than one hundred years of experience. The sites where our interdisciplinary project teams are at work include the following:

    • Constructing the Konrad Final Repository
    • Shutting down the Asse II Mine Pit
    • Final repository technology for the Gorleben Exploratory Mine
    • Keeping open the final repository for radioactive wastes in Morsleben (ERAM)
    • Preparing seismic surveys for the Buer Final Repository in France
    • Expert consulting services for the Bataapati Repository in Hungary
    • 3-D seismic surveys for final repository exploration, conducted for the NAGRA (National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste) in Switzerland.

The many years of experience possessed by top-class specialists and our collaboration with renowned subcontractors ensure that the stringent demands for radiation isolation are satisfied without doubt and in all the project’s phases.

The sustainable concepts worked out by DMT offer clear-cut safety in the especially complex field of final segregation for radioactive wastes. The firm’s experienced specialists offer precise statements and transparent results as to both the site being considered and technical feasibility. There, in addition to effective safety precautions, all the requirements set down in mining and atomic regulation legislation are taken fully into account. DMT delivers all the required services from a single source – always in compliance with the state of the art.
