Optical Measuring Systems

One of our core competences is consulting and engineering in the field of optical measuring of geometrical quantities, in particular in the steel and metalworking industry.

To obtain optimal production results in difficult industrial environments, for instance in dusty and humid conditions and at extreme temperatures, it is essential to employ non-contact optical measuring systems. These enable every contour and every surface to be sampled quickly online and without any wear and without any contact.

Optical measuring techniques used by DMT include laser triangulation, stereoscopic measuring and topometry.

Measurements of the following can be made (brief descriptions of some of the applications are given in the list on the right):

• Distances (e.g. pipe diameter, bearing ring diameter)
• Material widths and lengths (e.g. continuous cast elements, pipe lengths)
• Positions (e.g. belt position)
• Profile (e.g. monitoring the rolling process)
• Diameters and ovality
• Surfaces (e.g. detection of holes)

Based on the experience we have gained installing a wide range of setups we can design measuring systems specifically to match the size of your production process. The result is a compact measuring system including installation and all the preliminary work. And if required we can also link up the measuring system to your main production installation.
