    In-seam Seismics & In-seam Tomography

In-seam seismics has been successfully applied in underground coal mining for more than 20 years. During this time DMT has continuously improved this seismic method and has even gone one step further by adding in-seam tomography.

In-seam seismics are used for detecting, accurately recording and mapping the locations of

    • Faults / overthrust faults
    • Seam erosion / impoverished and barren seams
    • Changes in seam thickness and of seam composition

If in-seam seismic investigations are to be successful, then it is imperative to apply precise, explosion-proof survey instruments (such as the SUMMIT device) and augment them with accurate data processing and interpretation. Any peripheral information – on boreholes or underground workings, for instance – will be integrated into the assessment.

Interpretation of all the acquired data indicates the best sites for further test drilling. This can supply information verifying the overall results. In the end, the knowledge gained lends reliability when planning mining operations and at the same time minimises production breakdowns.
