Directional Down-Hole Radar
The down-hole radar system comprises the measurement truck, the cable winch, and the central measurement unit, together with a radar probe of modular design. The crew in the measurement vehicle monitors data registration and carries out quality control procedures for the measured values. The units in the probe are assembled at the drilling or workover rig and the entire system is then lowered into the hole. A lorry-mounted crane can also be used as an alternate to the drilling or workover rig.
Measurements with the directional radar are carried out in open boreholes, which will have to be filled with a medium exhibiting very high electrical resistance. Oil is normally used for this fill, but a dry borehole can also satisfy the requirements.
