Exploration – Planning and Performance
Exploration is the next step in geological investigation for areas exhibiting great prospectivity. During detailed exploration we investigate deposits or parts of deposits in preparation for recovery by mining.
Detailed exploration work like this usually involves planning and sinking boreholes enabling us to investigate the lithology of drill cores and document the rock strata. The tectonic structure of the deposits is determined by inspecting drill cores and rock outcroppings, by carrying out geophysical measurements, and by evaluating aerial photographs. The results are visualised in 3 D models. The final result of these investigations and interpretations is a projection of the deposit. This may be in the form of overview maps, plans, sections and maps of the distribution of mineral and rock properties.
Based on our experience in the German mining industry, we have prepared for and accompanied numerous exploration campaigns, on every continent. Interdisciplinary cooperation at DMT makes it possible to merge the results of exploration techniques used in various disciplines – including geology, geophysics, surveying and remote sensing – to create a coherent model.
We apply these techniques not only in the raw materials sector. They are also used on a regular basis in railway and roadbed construction, in the investigation of uncontrolled coal seam fires, and when planning geothermal projects.
