Engineering geophysics is used for non-destructive underground surveying and studies of construction sites. The purpose of the work is on the one hand to explore subterranean structures in preparation for civil engineering projects such as microtunnelling. On the other hand, parameters for soil mechanics are determined.

It is possible to determine, at high resolution, various geogenic structures and other aspects under ground. This includes:

• Groundwater
• Joints, faults and cavities
• Obstructions (e. g. pipelines, foundations)
